Author Topic: Old time player here, just passing by.  (Read 3999 times)

Hi guys,

Was sitting at my PC earlier thinking of a game to play as I was really bored and was completely tired out of building on StarMade. Then Blockland popped in to my head, got it on to my steam again, installed it and clicked "Join a Game" and my heart sank, there was a total of 40 players spread across all the servers. I stopped playing when they removed player maps as I enjoyed making servers, getting people on, making secret bases in all the hiding spots like Mike's House and that. It's a HUGE shame the game as died out like it has, it's such a beautiful, heart-felt game with an amazing community. I just wish Badspot would give this project over to someone who really wants to bring it back and listen to what the community wants. This game has so so much potential. I would defiantly come back and play if there was something like RTB again and maps.

I hope the best for this game and the community, the game and the people deserve it.

considering my server has 30+ people on it right now I wouldn't say blockland is "dying"

we broke the record for the amount of players on a server not even three weeks ago

But Blockland is dead and abandoned! I have proof, look at these screenshots i took!

I just wish people would stop bitching about the maps being removed. and if you want to play on maps, you can just download ports v20 thingy here. Also there is something like RTB too https://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=284376.0

Yes but it's  nothing like it use to be. You could spend hour sleeping on the game and always find something new to do. I was just putting across my opinion. The main issue is that it needs a new Dev who will actively update and improve.

blockland is doing fine u arent even as oldcigarette as you think

we broke the record for the amount of players on a server not even three weeks ago
that only happens once a year

Consistently, amount of players/quality servers have gone down but not too much

Stop bitching at Badspot for not wanting to pour countless more hours into an already completed game and go make some OC yourself if it chafes your richardhole that much. He's got better things to do with his time than to become a bleeding heart to all the old time players that want new stuff because they say so.

I remember after TechTv picked up BL as a freeware game of the week, the player base per nite was 150-200. Those were the real fun times.

Until someone wanded your staircase and you ragequit.

This game is community run.

But Blockland is dead and abandoned! I have proof, look at these screenshots i took!

Ya know, there are actual points to be made. Cherry picking the new years screenshots, thats not one of them.

On average we arent Mmo size, but I certainly still would not say we are a dead community.

either you lost creativity or nostalgia is clouding your perception because absolutely nothing has changed that would change that

Don't give the man a hard time. Yes BL isn't dead but you don't need to call him a cigarette just because he expressed his opinion and mentioned that in it.

I want to chip in 2 things:

1. I might not be an "old" player but have certainly sucked my hours into this game (it also makes me question wtf I am doing with my life) and from what I have seen from my own experiences, heard from others and seen in YT, the game does not have the community it had and part of that is because of a lack of involvement from Erick.

SIDE NOTE: I don't remember who said it but yes, Erick shouldn't have to worry and bitch over and slave to us players, but he also should have done something for a "final update" or something along the lines and have done something special, or pass the title of DEV to someone else so that that selected person could take on the task and continue it.

2. You might say that this game is Community driven, and you not entirely wrong, but here is some fruit for thought if you'd like to take it that way. 2 things happened last year which where great. BL in-game browser (or was that this year?) and pretty much a reboot of RBT known as Glass. Both addons expand the game to a whole new horizon and allow features either once had and lost and new experiences and ways to interact with people in the game. Great servers have been hosted which have made the game unique and fun, such as the Medieval RP, Crowns, (I guess you could include the NY Party) and more. (Those are just the ones of the top of my head, it's late atm as I am typing this).

Out of all of this, is the community actually coming together and driving this game forwards? TBH I'd say no. The closest thing everyone has seen to this is Filipe's BL10 plan, his way to revive the game by uniting players in an attempt to revive Blockland! That didn't go far, and not much has been done with it. There was a server for awhile, but not much was done.

If we really wanted this game to be "Community driven" then every player would have to "unite" and work together in publicity, projects to make the game better via addons (like reviving static maps) and other things (idk, insert something here). But frankly there just isn't many of us left and not many (from what I have seen so take it with a grain of salt and don't get pissy with me) seem to care or want to get involved.
This is the reason the BL10 project has gotten very far as of yet.

Now I just want to clarify befor you do indeed throw a stuff storm at me, there is Community activity and involvement, just not enough of it to keep the game moving and alive for much longer. This may be the games 10 anniversary but unless some impossible like Erik coming back happens, it's just us and we will have to do everything.

So yes, this is my opinion, just like Acelin's. You can bitch about me and to me all you like, but that isn't going to change anything but just make you look like a fool.

And no, I don't regret posting this, I feel like it was a good thing even if I am wrong about certain details.

You hit the nail right on the head there. The amount of hours I poured in to this game, I remember coming home straight from school, loading up the game and playing it until early hours of the morning. I don't care what people think of what I am saying, it's my perception and my opinion of this game now. The game has drastically changed from how it was a couple years ago. You would click "Join a Game" and have an endless choice of servers to play on, Free Builds, Roleplays, Team Deathmatches, Nightclubs, Unlimited Mining and just so much more, every server was packed out and everyone respected each other. Now you go look at the server list, hardly any variety or quality servers, only a few servers actually have people on it, everyone insults you for putting across your opinion and the developer couldn't care less about the game. All he has to do is give the dev status over to someone else who would really fix this game and drive people back to the game. Because at the moment the game is soulless and has no spark left in it. Even if Badspot wants to keep ownership so he can still earn his money, that is fine, just get a developer who will continue working on the game. Some of you may be in denial, but the game is slowly dying out, people are becoming bored of the extremely long updates which don't really add anything anymore. So, that is my honest opinion of the game at the moment, I hope to see change in the future before there is nothing to change.
