We’ve said plenty of times that we’d love to work on a Fallout again if Bethesda wanted us to, we just aren’t at this time. Right now we’re very focused on the Fig campaign to make our first ever sequel in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire. Whenever a new Fallout comes around though, whoever is doing it, we all look forward to playing it!

Chris Avellone was responsible for a lot of the writing in Fallout 2 but had very little impact on the story and overall design of the first Fallout, which IMO is superior to the second one. Fallout can still be good, or even better, without him involved.

I'll agree that we'd probably see a lot of what made Fallout: New Vegas special disappear, and without the original Fallout's designers like Tim Cain there to pick up the slack it's going to be hard to replace it. I trust JE Sawyer though.

obsidian didn't make fallout 2 but you still seem to like that one

all of the major designers on fallout 2 would later go on to work on fallout new vegas.
