Author Topic: Would You Rather: PC gaming or Console gaming?  (Read 3796 times)

I'd prefer PC on the sole fact that most of the newer consoles force you to pay a subscription to do multiplayer stuff.
You know what'd be terrible? [if Steam started charging users money to play online]

If steam did that, then they'd be gone in a week.
Doesn't matter how much PC gamers hate EA, or disorganization.
We'd buy games outside of steam, steam isn't the only way to but most of these games.
We lose Gmod and other Steam exclusive games?
well that sucks.

It's pretty half and half.
My PC is where I mostly any newer games on, but I also do still regularly play my PS2, GameCube, Xbox, PS1, N64, SNES and whatnot at the same rate.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Honestly, watching people bitch about online subscriptions which are necessary to keep the service active makes me just think that they probably aren't paying the internet bills anyway.

what if blf had a monthly fee tho

well i guess if ur a problem user then for you it already does

i don't want pay to use my internet, that i already paid for, on a console, that i already paid for, with a game, that i already paid for

Then play singleplayer.

Somebody has to pay to keep the servers active, in good maintenance and secure. You paid for the cost of manufacturing the goods, not for the ongoing service.

Anyone who unironically says "PC master race" is probably mildly handicapped. Aside from graphical differences, for pure gaming they function as very similar platforms. Consoles are very easy to access in the market and are very convenient for their price. They are nice for families because they aren't exclusive to games like some people seem to think. Consoles are a media center. Sure you can build a pc for the same price or size, but you don't really see them being advertised or as easy to get as a console.

There isnt anything wrong with console gaming. the only thing I don't like is having to pay to play online games, I blame microsoft for showing sony how profitable it is.

Not only that, but Nintendo is hopping on that wagon, however, it's only about $17.50-$20 a month, which is a steal compared to Sony and Microsoft's online plan.

Most of the time theres no backwards compatibility. Effectively making games you owned for a previous console useless if you sold it to get the newer system and limiting the amount of games you can buy.
Also PC is an open platform where you can play thousands of indie games and older games, as well as total game conversion mods.

I get what you're trying to say but theres far more to PC then just better graphics and framerate. It's all about how you can customize your gaming experience.

Very little to do with it. Blame economics in general for going through the stuffter. Blame hackers for making increased, costly security measures mandatory. Blame server technology being fiddly and requiring hundreds of service technicians on staff at any one time. Blame stupid people for needing tech support phone/email lines. Blame developers for needing to use these online services with their own unique data cases.

I guess that World of Warcraft thing would be just as successful today from a technological standpoint if they only required a one-off payment, huh?

And PC isn't the same? Old games on the PC were made quick, under the assumption nothing would change. Sure, there's communities dedicated to trying to get old games running right, but it's not a guarantee for every single case. About 75% of my games won't run on anything above Windows XP.

Hell, even modern games can be fiddly to get running. With such a fractured state of the market and no regulation or standardisation, there's no way to guarantee that one thing will work perfectly on every system configuration. This is why there's so many bloody "X Doesn't Work!" threads on Steam for games that other people claim are "100% Optimised".

On console, everything is built to spec and there's major penalties via the manufacturer for developers who produce games that break.

I don't like indie games in 9/10 cases, there's never any good total conversions for the games I own and I already explained the compatibility issues with old games. These benefits are extremely subjective.

It's weird too; there's a LOT of indie games for Xbox, Playstation and the Switch. I don't see how you can have that as an argument. Especially when console indie games tend to be higher quality as they have to go through the certification process, whereas PC games have no such thing and so the developers are free to richard all over the PC consumers.

Quality. Although to be fair this is just one mistake compared to the hundreds Steam lets in through greenlight.

Quality.
Life of Black Tiger really, really bothers me because I could have sworn that in that trailer alone I saw 6 Class-A bugs that should block Gold, and it also indicates that an indie studio put in a couple hundred grand to push their game onto the PlayStation Store. I honestly can't explain this blunder.

Critical made a video about a number of stuffty Xbox Arcade games, but I know that they were a bit different; they came from an era when Microsoft was just getting started with the Arcade program and couldn't afford to strong-arm indies, meaning a lot of cruft slipped the gaps. Thanks to the rise of Steam and the increase of funding for the Arcade program, Microsoft seems to have a tight leash on the indie market once again.

Its not even a question

I use my PC Most of the time, but when friends come over I play with them on my Dad's Xbox 360.
