Author Topic: please consider the humanity of your fellow forum goers  (Read 16458 times)

at some point it became impossible to fit in here unless you were hostile, which is especially obvious when you look at the way people treat young kids or newcomers. everybody feels like they gotta uphold some kinda tough guy act or else they'll get bullied by someone else trying to uphold a tough guy act.

honestly a big part of the problem here is probably the incredibly lenient rules. its just kind of human nature to try and push the limits of set rules, and the rarely enforced no flaming rule is pushed a lot, leading to conditions like this.
This one really rings true. It's increasingly more awkward because of all the le prestige forum veterans who act like hot stuff just because they've been around longer than everyone else, and you get this with pretty much every online community. They're only relevant solely on the merit that they've been here forever and they aren't afraid to exploit the automatic credibility they get for it and come off as extremely jaded and misanthropic.
actually, i should've written that in the past tense. i'm too tired and too busy to waste time arguing when i could be doing more productive or more entertaining things. getting riled up is a real waste of energy and there's really no true "satisfaction" from "winning" an "argument" anyway.

i'd rather just chill with you guys than stuff about politics these days
qft

and here we see a thread about considering the humanity of your fellow forum goers devolving into an argument
isn't that something
they're not arguing

people here like to be condescending and "LE MEMES LE DISCORD ECKSDEE" because they either think it's funny, are insecure, or are copying everyone else

this place is mostly full of 13-23 year olds, so there's nothing else for you to expect

it's comparable to why everyone on some place like /b/ or /r9k/ or /g/ are so condescending

they just are, newcigarette

and this:
fairly certain 10% of users are almost psychopaths and they don't really give a stuff about who's behind the keyboard

everyone else acts with a learned ruthlessness because positivity/civility is still often met with hostility

I think you've missed a connection here; "newcigarette" is a term used in the boards he mentioned, so I don't think he was actually trying to call him that.

I mean, it could just be dumb luck and the point he made was entirely accidental, but hey

EDIT: That reminds me: people here have really stuffty reading comprehension skills.

i'm quite sure that theviacom was addressing OP in this

if we take his whole quote, he isn't initially quoting anyone, assuming that it's aimed towards the OP - theviacom came late to explain to the thread (presumably OP, mainly) and split up sentences into lines, hence:

"this place is mostly full of 13-23 year olds / it's .. why everone on some place like .. are so condescending / they just are, newcigarette" (omitting some information) - it's like going: "life sucks / that's just how it is, friend," where the lines are split but they're obviously aimed towards someone in response

didnt read the whole thread but it definitely seemed like other people were
o yea i was just meaning u guys

Those frozen boxed foods? Really?
