Nintendo introduces New 2DS XL

No I'm not kidding.
Also I caught the video just a half an hour after it came out WOW.
Introducing New Nintendo 2DS XL

is nintendo loving handicapped

So basically it's a 3dsxl... without the 3d.

the forget are you doing nintendo

If it's cheaper than the New 3DS, works just as well and is less unwieldy than the original 2DS then I don't see what the problem is

If it has the New 3DS hardware but at a reduced price like that I am going to jump on it. But if it doesn't, I'll pass. Seems like a really good handheld for just $150 though, and like a comment on the video said, "Nintendo is capturing as many demographics as they can with handhelds, that's how their fiscal report looks awesome."

Well, I get where some people are coming from, as the Switch just came out last month, and people thought since it's supposed to be a
handheld and a home console that the 3DS was dead or on the way out, and then they see this.

Albeit no one seems to understand how this has happened before.

Nintendo or some other company releases a new system, tells everyone the old one isn't 'dead yet' and they do this to keep people from
jumping ship, and then sometimes, they phase it out by releasing a cheaper alternative to the old one, and then eventually they stop.

WiiMini, PSOne, PSPGo, Gameboy Advance, etc.

what the heck
Is Nintendo really intent on having the 3DS live aside the Switch? I would expect the 3DS to last up to this year, MAYBE 2018 at most but this timing is just super loving odd.

It's the cheaper alternative like the 2DS was except now it has the features/power of the New 3DS. There isn't any issue with that, it's just why bring it out this late into it's life?

this actually doesn't seem too bad
honestly the 3d feature got old fairly quickly anyways, so this can be a nice alternative to those who still want the other features of the new 3ds

new ergonomic folding design..

umm ok nintendo. 2ds is more comfortable anyway and I'm not interested in buying amiibos so I think I'll stick with the regular 2ds.

the top screen looks like a loving smartphone lmaoo

It's logical for a company like Nintendo to keep a dedicated handheld line going along with it's main console. The Switch is certainly portable, however the battery life isn't the greatest and you probably can't charge it from any of the standard outlets in a car, plus it's expensive. The 3DS and the 2DS still has a place, though I wouldn't be surprised if their next handheld generation is a single console without 3D since it's clear that the 3D experiment was a bit of a flash in the pan.

In any case, I don't think there's any issue with this new 2DSXL

Okay, so this happens, almost every generation, A console comes out to replace the old one, the old one gets phased out with a cheaper alternative to capture the audience who
are unable to purchase the new one because of money or stock restrictions. Then the previous generation Systems lose support throughout the next two years, and by the end of the first or second or sometimes third month all first party support is gone.

I expect Nintendo to drop 3DS Support when the Switch's online service starts requiring payment.

I quite like this actually, the design is nice and it sacrifices the gimmick nobody uses beyond the first couple weeks of owning it for a lower price

I'd consider picking one up since the d-pad in my N3DS is going very bad but I'm afraid of them announcing a new handheld in the next 6 months or so

I really don't think the Switch is going to replace Nintendo's handheld line, it's not nearly as portable

Now people think the Switch's battery life is stuff only because of it's battery life handling BOTW.
BOTW is an open world game, and it's loving huge and detailed.
I understand the whole, 3 hour limit.
On the other hand, the other games I've played so far don't give me this '3 Hour' Limit.
Shovel Knight doesn't do this.
I have a feeling Mario Kart 8 Deluxe won't do it either.

And just to put the final nail into the coffin, The original 3DS claimed it could hold about 7 hours of charge for games on low loads.

Not that much more than 3 hours.

Finally, watch this real time battery test: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6Rqaf9lMrg

The 3DS only lasted 3 Hours a nd 25 minutes, the 2ds soon after, and the the new 3ds mini died.
Unfortunatly the original 3ds XL wasn't a fair test as it has an extended battery on it.

But the switch beat all the non-modified Nintendo handhelds on the table (sans the original DS) , while they were just on the main menu.
