I'm sure there's been some cases of that. Either way, unnecessarily provoking someone because you don't agree with how they live their life is wrong. This goes for everyone though and I wish society as a whole would learn this.

if this is the case, if they get upset as a result you'll know the reason why. as long as you're okay with not adhering to other people's beliefs for the sake of your own. its not a good thing or a bad thing, but people will react differently to it

I really don't see why people back up blatant disrespect with religious/political beliefs. It's not because of your religion-you're just being disrespectful. Most LGBT (specifically T in this case) would respect your religion and beliefs. The least you could do is respect them unless they give you a valid and justifiable reason not to.
