to go against all odds of what has been going on in this forum page (presumably) I have to side with rockstar.
Modding GTA IV was indeed fun and very very different from GTA V (as it is online and the misfortune of a ban comes with leaving mods on)
it is sad to see OpenIV go, and to be honest, maybe not even needed. but I still see how Rockstar is mostly in the right.

how is it possible to side with them when the other side did absolutely nothing loving wrong

you literally have to do major bypass stuff in the first place in order to play online with mods, because OpenIV blocks you out of playing online at all with mods on

to be fair it was take-two that made the decision and not rockstar
but really this was just a stuffty move to make people play the toxic online more since it's the only source of new content and thus buy shark cards to actually purchase the new stuff
