I'm not defending the forum communism meme, but Marx died thirty years before the first Marxist state was established. He was a guy that wrote a book which influenced a bunch of twentieth century revolutionaries. He was never a politician nor held any public office. He died pretty much thinking he was just a sociologist talking about his 'ideal state'.

Listen here Alzheimer's, profit motive (aka Capitalism) was the driving cause for the two deadliest conflicts in history, World War 1 & 2. Don't even get me STARTED on how many people die each year from a lack of food, while American corporations waste millions of pounds of food each year.

He was a very charismatic man who came off very likable and intelligent. He was extremely popular (his 1984 re-election bid was literally the biggest electoral victory in US history), and his policies on low-taxes and discretionary spending basically set the stage for modern conservative thinking.

There's a lot I don't like about him, but I think the most damning issue with his presidency was the whole Iran-Contra affair.

Basically, the US was selling weapons to drug-slinging terrorists in Central America, until Congress banned it. Then, Reagan's administration continued to do so, effectively funding an undeclared war without congressional approval, which is extremely, extremely illegal. Long story short, one of his generals lieutenant colonels took all the heat for it and Reagan got off scot-free.

The Iran-Contra affair makes Hillary's email scandal look like an old lady stealing ketchup packets from Denny's, but still the guy is a Republican demigod.
