it's more an issue of rewriting history than anything. Personally I don't give two stuffs about the statue but some people feel very strongly about "erasing history" or "sanitizing" history and oppose it purely on principle.

Lee was a very complex figure historically and for the standards of the time, he wasn't an awful person morally. He did own slaves but so did many other people that don't have the same negative stigma attached to them. Lee's legacy as a capable tactician is overshadowed because he chose to fight under the CSA and debatably was a greater/more historically relevant figurehead for the CSA than Jefferson Davis.
rewriting history lmao? they're removing historical memorabilia of someone who represented the confederate south, and was fighting for the right to own slaves. this isn't "rewriting" history, it's just a bunch of racist white people getting upset when something gets taken away from them lol

meanwhile academia hollywood and all other media is left-leaning, your argument is invalid

hey let's remove any and all statues of Nelson Mandela while we're at it, after all he was a literal domestic terrorist
or maybe Malcolm X, too, he was a rather touchy guy

good stuff

i guess we now live in a world where defending people's right to not be owned or oppressed in society is comparable to defending people's right to own and oppress others

or maybe the Lenin statue in Seattle, the guy was a proponent of an ideology that killed 10x as many people as mesothelioma did but it's okay because none of those atrocious dictatorships were REAL COMMUNISM /s

normally i see a lot of liberal users try playing the straw-grasping game but it's interesting to see a complete role reversal

media is left leaning just because of how its values make it easier for people wanting to make money. government is still completely republican, the majority of people still voted for them

I'm not too sure if indignant sarcasm is a great idea considering the situation at hand. If y'all are convinced the left are trying to pigeonhole you into the same swastika-shaped group, why do you keep giving them fuel for their fire?

Just gonna lead to more back-and-forth nonsense.

Quote
Advocacy and teachings while with Nation
From his adoption of the Nation of Islam in 1952 until he broke with it in 1964, Malcolm X promoted the Nation's teachings. These included the beliefs:
  • that black people are the original people of the world
  • that white people are "devils"
  • that blacks are superior to whites, and
  • that the demise of the white race is imminent.

what happened to "muh 2 million more votes for hillary"

im sure removing a statue will permanently erase robet e lee from all history textbooks and nobody will ever remember his name or what he did

the statue isn't being removed because of his beliefs. it's being removed because he owned human beings. malcolm x didn't own white people. he didn't oppress white people. he just advocated an independent state, followed nation of islam until he eventually broke away from it because he didn't like their teachings

loving try harder
