right away.
Aif opens his eyes, dazed, with a throbbing in his head.  He suddenly remembers the storm, bolting upright before a brief wave of pain puts him back down.  Slowly he reopens his eyes and gets back up, this time with greater success.  Looking around, his boat and brother are nowhere to be seen, its only remains being the small mast he was able to lash himself to when the storm hit.  Aif looks around, again slowly, and drags himself away from the shore to look for fresh water and food.

Theric laid out the tunics, breastplates, greaves and shoes out neatly on the sand- letting the heat of the sun hopefully ray down on them enough to push out some of the dampness.

His eyes fell onto the barrel for a moment, but he decided to leave that for later. Theric did take bag of coin- fastening them to his belt. Even if the locals don't care that much, he'll need these when he gets back to civilization.

After prying out the pole and holding up the spear to the light, Theric seems very pleased with his discovery. Feeling a bit antsy with it- he weighs it in his grasp and swings it around a little before he hauls it back along with him.

For now, he fits on the heavier pieces of armor he has- drains out the shoes and fits this on as well. He sets the things up near his ready-to-camp supplies, and he begins to march inland off in the direction of the smoke he had seen earlier. Lets just hope that whatever is giving off that smoke is near water.

Aif finds himself on a semi-rocky beach, the rocks smoothed either partially or completely by surf and sand, and small grey-brown crabs moving about its surface. As he moves up the beach, he finds driftwood, ranging from small sticks to branches to great tree trunks. Beyond that, he sees some bushes with either red flowers or berries.

The sun is tilting slightly down towards the sea. Seems he is on a western coastline.

Theric does all this and washes yet another crab–this one small–out of one of the shoes, and begins to walk along the coastline, first NNW, then turning N. There are numerous gulls gliding about the air and the air is crisp and clean. As he approaches, there is indeed smoke rising NNE of him. He stops with a rocky island offshore WNW of him, to catch his breath, now quite thirsty, and upon looking at the ground, he notices that his shadow now points slightly toward the sea, rather than away from it when he had recovered. A route through the forest could be quicker, but he could also lose sight of the smoke. The course of the coastline is longer, and keeps him out of potential danger—Wait, are those. . .boats? A few fishing boats skirt the coastline between a cape nearer and a coast further.

Yana completes her hammock and slowly climbs down the tree. She gathers several stones and makes her way back up the tree once more.

A wide toothy grin spreads across Theric's face. It's not a pretty sight. His eyes fall onto the small nearby island off the coast, his lips twisting thoughtfully. This place is rockier than I'd like.. It's a useless, almost privileged thought that the man has as his eyes scan over the landscape. The air smells nice, but its cold feels like stabs against his dry throat. So he's looking inwards. The coast would probably be easier to navigate- but at this rate I'll die of thirst before I get there.

Theric glances upwards, squinting to figure out which direction the last bit of sunlight is. Once he figures where it's falling, and where the moon will be rising from, he opts to continue heading in the direction of the smoke based off the relation of these two things. He puts trust in himself for now to take himself where he wants to go quick enough.

Aif grabs some of the smaller driftwood on his way to investigate the red somethings; hoping to make a fire to keep away any wild beasts.  He checks for the flint he's always carried in a small pouch tied to his rope belt, but finds that the pouch was lost alongside everything else.  He scans the rocks as he goes, looking for some replacement flint with little hope.

The pain in his head seems to be receding, and Aif begins to make better time.

Aif succeeds in gathering enough wood for a campfire, as well as a suitable hunk of flint, however he still lacks proper tinder for his fire. A short search reveals some semi-dry grass not too far into the forest. There are also numerous pine needles and cones which were made damp by the storm, but would make excellent tinder and kindling if dried.

Coming from under this layer of needles is a few small caps.

« Aif has discovered the Paludiak Mushroom »

Close inspection reveals that some are proportionally fatter than others, and those that are thin have caps which droop down.

Upon inspecting the bush, the red somethings are berries—small, aggregate red berries—and plenty of them. The stem is smooth and the leaves still carry some dampness from the rain. It is uncertain whether this water would sufficiently quench his thirst.

Theric heads into the forest, moving to reach the village, camp, town, settlement, or whatever lies beyond the woods.

A short trip in reveals some Polodi and Paludiak Mushrooms as well as some large berry bush, and he is able to identify its features—small, blue berries in clusters; the bush appears to be perennial based on its woody, thorny stems. He is about to pluck one from the bush before he is distracted by a rustling and a deer running out from it to the NNE, already slightly slowed and bloodied by the thorny branches that cling to the deer.

Yana places the rocks in a bough near to her hammock and feels a gust of cold wind. It would be best that I build a campfire.
Who knows hoe cold the nights could get here.
She looks through her rocks and concludes that none of them are flint, and climbs don the tree to look for more. For the greater part of 20 minutes, she searches with little success, but eventually finds a piece and stuffs it in her pocket. She heads back to her hammock camp and begins to clear a space before she hears a guttural squeal and the thumping of approaching hooves. Knowing she can't get up the tree in time, she readies her knife and holds it out in front of her, turning to face her aggressor and taking a broad stance.

« Yana has discovered the Woolswine »

She waits until the woolswine gets close, before leaping to the left, letting her knife-wielding right hand lag behind, but twisting her wrist down to decrease the chances of getting impaled by the tusks. It works. The animal receives a slash to the snout, and the animal continues through. Meanwhile, the action throws Yana off-balance, and she turns back around to face it to receive any additional charge. The sine slows and rounds about to face Yana, grunting and shaking its head, perhaps unsure if it would like to take any chances again...  It's not like I can cook this thing. There's no way I could prepare a fire before a predator could close in and steal any meat I could get from this. The swine decides instead to leave, trotting off to the northwest. Oh, thank God. She relaxes and checks that she has no blood on her hands and stabs the knife into the earth, pulling it out to clean the knife from any blood.

She continues to clear an area for building a campfire and searches for suitable logs for kindling and burning, as well as tinder.

Theric gathered these mushrooms, lazily roll them around in his hands and feeling them with as much caution as anyone would with handling unknown mushroom. He then tucks them away for later investigation, assuming they don't cause any immediate negative reactions.

Theric jumps as a deer races out from the bush and drags with it branches stabbed into it by their thorns. He ponders his options but leaves the animal to its devices. As much as he'd like to chase it down and cook it up, he'd also rather not die of dehydration. He plucks a couple of berries and feels them for irritations, before he eventually continues off in the direction he intended.

Hopefully.

Theric finds that the fatter mushrooms do not have any ridges or shelves on their stalk, but the one with the semi-droopy caps have shelves and the dust that came from under the caps cause skin irritation. His hands become more pink and get itchy. h immediately discards these and keeps the others.

The berries do not irritate his skin at all. There are more berry bushes that look the same ahead, but also some stone pillar or something behind it.

After a while of searching and snapping logs over rocks, Yana puts her campfire together, striking the flint and the back of the knife together to create sparks. She does this several times before the tinder begins smoking. Carefully, she lifts up the tinder, gently blowing on it, trading the whisp of smoke and soft red glow for a great amount of cloud and an orange flicker, cautiously, she drops the tinder next to the teepee of logs and kindling and pushes it under with the knife, continuing her blowing to keep the flames going.

After exerting this energy, she becomes very dizzy and feels a pang at the back of her head and moves out to search for water, even it if mans shaking leaves to get water off of them.

Theric opts to try some of the berries as he moves over to investigate the stone pillar, his spear at the ready as if the thing may jump out at him. He pocketed his mushrooms and investigated the pillar. He wouldn't spend too much time or attention on it though- he needed something to drink and quickly.

Afterwards, he would ocntinue to travel, double checking whenever/wherever he can to figure out if he's still going in the right direction.

Theric ate the berries. Nothing seems to happen. Some are tart, and some are sweet, perhaps some were not fully ripe. He finds carvings on the pillar of a language that is unfamiliar to him, that his eyes hasn't even seen on all his travels, but nonetheless it still uses runic characters. The pillar stand there, partially covered in lichens and moss.

Theric would find more objects indicating civilization ahead, including first a partially broken stone head, an arrow stuck in a tree, and finally a bronze axe with the wood handle broken.

Yana stumbles around, collecting what water she will remaining off of pine trees, and manages to quench herself for now. Tomorrow morning, she knows he'll be in the exact same state that she was before she went on her search. Seeing her on breath, she moves closer to the fire and holds her hands out in front of it, watching the flames lick the logs.

that is a sick map. is it drawn by hand?

Aif attempts to start a small fire, fortunately finding that the small chunk of fool's gold kept for just this purpose somehow stayed with him in a small pocket he didn't remember having until now.

Aif gets what water he can from the leaves, and gathers some of the mushrooms and berries, sniffing them first, and if not foul, taking a small nibble.  Hunger is beginning to close its jaws around his gut, however, and he begins to weigh how hungry he will need to be to consume what may well be death to him.

Well, at least he's not dead, right? Theric looks over the pillar a few times over before his face scrunches up from the foreign symbols. He rises once again, stepping away from the pillar and continuing to head off in the direction of civilization.

As he follows and sees the signs, he glances back and forth between the arrow and broken axe with a bit of scrutiny- checking to see how long ago these may have been stuck there, but readying his spear for the worst all the same.

Aif is able to quench his thirst to some degree, but he is certain that he will be as thirsty tomorrow as he was just before he searched for water. His is able to start a fire after locating dry tinder and logs. In about 20 minutes, it's healthily crackling away.

He handles the mushrooms, but the ones with the semi-droopy caps and white shelves just under them scatter powder which causes skin irritation, turning his hands at point of contact pink and causing minor swelling. The berries and other mushrooms seem fine.

Theric looks over the axe and arrow. The axe is a workman's axe. Depressions in the ground indicate that there were people here recently, no, not so recently. He turns around and sees a large tree with gashes in its side, with some old sap coming out of it, some dried, some still semi-liquid. The axe head is bronze and is weathered all except for the blade portion, which appears to have been used recently. The axe handle has some weathering on the inside of the fracture.

The arrow is new. It seems like this was a trained shot, and it's buried deep into the trunk. There are gashes lower in the tree's trunk, but it is uncertain where they came from, as a woodsman would probably not cut this low.

Ahead, Theric hears a distant shout, a male's, straight in the direction he had been heading. As he approaches, he is able to make out the murmur of voices.

Lips pursing, Theric eyes the signs of fairly recent activity. His eyes flick along the axe head. Depending on what happens, he may come back for this. He looks over to the arrow now and opts to leave it where it is. He doesn't have a bow- it'd take up too much room.

Then there's the sounds of voices, and Theric snaps his head over and tightens his grip on his spear.

Theric opts to take a stealthier approach now. He ducks into some shrubbery and tries to keep his steps as light and careful as he can manage- spear at the ready and eyes wide like saucers as he tries to catch every detail he can. He tries to approach from the origin of the voices flank, clenching his teeth and preparing for the worst.
