Author Topic: Stop badmouthing the game, you idiots  (Read 17318 times)

does anyone still remember the player count at when we got on steam? I remember the huge spike of people, it was glorious

i think its neat how typically games that die just die but this game got negative reviews precisely because it died
i think you're right, but this thread has me wondering if the game is also dying because it gets so many negative reviews

it makes sense to me that if we encouraged people to play the game, and more people were joining than were silently leaving, the community would be changing. new content would get made by new people, new servers would go up and new players would arrive to fill them. we might start removing the label the community has for being so sour. you can see in really old threads on this forum that the community used to be different, and i don't think it's impossible for that to happen again. that's a lot of hope to put in something like a steam rating, but i'd be glad to at least aim for that.

i've kept myself from writing a review on blockland because i'd get too wordy and personal with it, but because of this thread i think i'll try to write a shorter one that just focuses on the gameplay, just to get it done

This doesn't apply. I'm not saying the game needs to have 1000+ players to be fun, but the fact that its sub 200 almost all the time now does not help, especially when the playerbase is spread throughout many servers.

yes it does apply. that's what badspot's whole post was about. people complaining about bl having a small group of players

I agree that the badmouthing is purposely hurtful to the game. But with badmouthing or not, the playerbase will probably never recover to that from the old days for the simple fact that the game is outdated to the core and recieves attention only for critical reasons. I feel that a game like this can't grow much further, and we shouldn't blow up how much of an impact these bad steam reviews have.

I think we should honestly try out best to welcome new players, since there will be a good number popping up for Christmas. We may lose our patience, but if we give them a friendly experience they too will stick around like the rest of us.

if you're tired of blockland being empty, why would you just sit there and whine about it?
make a server, collaborate, build stuff, involve the community, get off your ass and do something great with blockland
the whole point of the game is that it is only fun as we can make it.

The low player count is in now way helping this game or the community at all. If you want to sit there and be in denial about how the game is just as good as it was with this minuscule player-base go ahead and keep thinking that.

I usually do come back every so often to try to host a fun server such as my Fort Wars or Trench Wars, which is usually pretty well received. But a lot of times it wont be popular (which both of these gamemodes rely on 15+ player count) until the weekends because not nearly as many people log on for weeknights anymore.

People keep saying this, but what if they already are doing something about it, but it's just not enough? We have people working on builds, add-ons, and servers a lot, but what if it's just not working? What if people, new or otherwise, just don't know where to look if they're seeking out the fun that this game has to offer? And what if some of these other people that complain just aren't even capable of hosting a server for one reason or another?

We shouldn't have to pull this welcome wagon routine, if you're gonna host a server, do it because you want to, not because you're desperate to make this game seem fun to new players, because then you ARE making this game seem desperate

New players to any game should be able to find their own fun and not have to be subjected to these ideas of artificially created fun that will only last a short while

It's a nice thought and all, but it just won't work, the new people may start to wonder where these fun servers went when you guys inevitably tire of hosting and raking in the new players, then they'll just complain that they're now stuck playing the same old boring knife servers or whatever and eventually quit

For a game this old (and without updates for so long) the player count isn't that bad.

Here is an idea. Flag all the bad reviews for spam and bullstuff.

Valve/Steam usually just bans or removes reviews left and right sometimes so why don't we do Blockland a favour yeah?

you're terrible

FYI: The game has 68% positive reviews, and you need 70 or above for it to display "mostly positive" as far as i'm aware

Amen. When I got blockland in like whenever I was banned from almost every server for "high ID" obviously that was a long time ago but yeah. We should be a welcoming community if we want this game to last.

I'd be hosting a ton of cool servers if i could but i can't because our route can't port foward.

I even tried to ask players to host my gamemodes not for me(i told they would claim the gamemodes as if it was their own) but for the community sake.
