the problem isn't that one kind of riot is okay and one isn't, it's the difference in police preparation and response. it's painfully clear that they overprepared and overreacted in nearly every case for BLM protests, no hesitation to have the national guard at the ready and no hesitation to bust out the rubber bullets and tear gas whenever they decided to "pre-empt" violence, while Annoying Orange supporters had the luxury of relaxed, reactive policing. they knew things could turn out like this and refused additional support, they evidently trusted them enough to let them in, and when things went sideways, they refused outside support again. the DC officers seemed to be having a great time in fact. and we know that the DC police have the resources to respond to these kinds of threats, they just...didn't? and i don't know how to explain thatand the point obviously isn't that the police should brutally assault protestors either--again, the point isn't one situation being good and the other being bad. it's how stark the difference in response was between each situation, and how much of an embarrassment this is for the US government and DC police.even if you think that's all a bit abstract, or believe blm deserved the response it got from police, you should still be able to agree that it was a massive failure that these people were able to storm the capitol building practically without resistance
