ah yes all the innocent people suffering in russia when the other side is getting ripped apart by bombs. I understand where you are coming from, but it is incredibly hard to sanction only the people making the decisions and not affect the people of the country at all. There may be a way but it would've needed much more preparation than the current means.

Edit: also if you seriously think sanctions are worse than war you should consider Self Delete
it’s actually very easy and standard practice for civilized countries. international organizations or individual countries can leverage banks around the world to freeze funds from certain individuals or their families.
while this unfortunately doesn’t have the same effect of starving people, it prevents them from using this money for corrupt practices. the US did this with the ayatollah in 2018 or so and it was extremely effective, the vast amounts of illegal business the ayatollah directly finances was damaged

and yes, sanctions are worse than war. you as a citizen have no way of fighting back against sanctions except by attacking your own people. it’s deliberately cruel and deliberately a one-way battle

They're definitely gonna reduce their reliance on Russian gas but it's going to take years. Cutting them off immediately would cause rolling blackouts across Europe and billions of dollars of damage. They could have gotten out of this by just investing more in renewable or nuclear energy

also isnt natural gas a difficult resource to transport? like it requires expensive and expansive piping infrastructure or something, since its a gas.

by "attacking your own people" do you mean politically or physically? i have trouble understanding how sanctions are worse than war when the former results in economic hardship that may result in death, while the other directly involves killing people

They had years, and now they do not. Either they're going to get cut off or they're going to back off and let Russia continue.
They could have gotten out of this
Yes.
by just investing more in renewable
No.
or nuclear energy
Yes.

By your logic things are currently worse in russia than they are in ukrain. You really dont seem to realize what war really means. This is why i hate you handicaps that start acting like experts in every loving subject when you dont know one thing about whats really going on.

Have you seen what is going on in ukraine. If so i dont think you are right in the head.

To be frank I don't think any of you know what the forget is going on in Ukraine. There's so much smoke piss and propaganda coming from all sides I'm completely over it. Just want my gas to not cost $4+ frankly that's more pressing than some overseas bullstuff

i mean yeah i agree, but like gas prices are inherently tied to geopolitics and stuff so unfortunately its hard to separate the two

Wrong.

If we just kept the Keystone XL Pipeline, hadn't ended fracking and remained energy independent this wouldn't be a problem. But the democrats and joe biden's administration are more concerned with fantasy green energy pipe-dreams. Green Energy is not a realistic option for replacing Oil.

Which is why the aim wasn't only to replace the source of fuel, but to change the demand of fuel. More public transportation, more energy production through carbon neutral means, trains, etc.

Climate change is also a serious problem that cannot be ignored.
