Author Topic: Static.....build?  (Read 1883 times)

ok this is kind of an outrageous suggestion from me here...

im thinking about that brick limit, i want to do my epic builds that include a town, castles, boats. blah blah, could be anything really.
but the eater of brick count is the landscaping. its very fun and looks great, and really i hate using anything but slate.

is it possible..... to make an entire save into a static brick? no longer able to paint it or remove bricks. just 1 huge brick with many many sides? lol
so i can rip out my rivers and valleys and cliffs on a massive scale. then static it up, and use it as a massive baseplate?

rdy for the crazy flame

if it is, can someone make this possible for me? lol.

i haven't needed anything more for an addon ever x.x

You would most likely change the bls. to a dts. but I'm not sure.

I wouldn't take supercool's word for anything, Bisjac.

If it was that simple pigs would be flying and I would be sawing off my hand for no apparent reason.
Anyways, you would need a way to grab a group of bricks and somehow combine them, obviously, but everything after grab a group of bricks is immensely confusing and strangely puzzling. How to go about doing this is basically where I drop off, see if you can get another(more experienced) coder's ideas on this.

even if it remained as a brick type. that if i carelessly wanded i would lose EVERYTHING. whatever works.

The duplicator might be a decent source.

thats a awesome idea bisjac :3

The duplicator might be a decent source.
But that dosen't solve the problem with the brick count.

the duplicator just saves an array(or something similar) of the bricks and rebuilds each of them.
Ya still have all of those bricks.

But that dosen't solve the problem with the brick count.
You have no clue what I'm talking about.

Go back to your cave.

Well a .bls file is just a text based file that tells the program what objects go where.  If you wanted to get an actual object, you'll have to work with the actual object- not just a reference to the objects.

So from that perspective, I would think that the work would have to be done in-game to export the collection of objects into something that you can export into a single object.  Unfortunately I don't know much more about this but that's the concept that you'll be working with.

This would only be useful at all if you could make bricks with openings you could pass through.

What I do for massive scale builds:

Keep every part teleported together but far away, so you only load it once you go there.
Save the whole thing in parts. Mission editor is used to delete parts so you can save.
Load seperate parts.
...done? :o

You couldnt get more than 120k in one "part" though :/

Use models maybe. Take screenshots and use them as references in a modeling program. Maybe the texture could be the build itself to make it look like it was built.
