Awesome.

I named a dwarf "Quote, Killer of Things", gave him proficient in marksdwarf and normal trapping/ambushing, and taught him to make his own bolts.

There's no more animals anymore. And carp? All bloody, and gory, and... Just, dead.

Apparently collapsing rocks only leaves them intact if you didn't build them. Sort of angers me.

On a side note I made a great contraption for collecting visible fish, like carp: Here's a key, I forget the DF legend:

(It doesn't loop due to my not knowing how to make it do so, so reload the page if you blinked. :D)

(It's not animating!)

make your dwarves work hard and they might get more workers

also, labor menu can assign a new stone crafter

Have one of your existing dwarves use the Stoneworking labors (Like Masonry or Stone Detailing or whatever a stone worker does).

Select the dwarf by pressing V and moving the cursor over him
Press P to get to his Preferences tab
then press L for Labors, and select whichever tasks you want him to work on whenever he has the time

Also, protip: Always set up a meeting area right at the beginning, in a safe spot, to stop your dumbass dwarves from wandering into caves/megabeasts/volcanoes. Also, set up a Restricted Traffic Zone on danger spots.
