I have the Local chat basically done, I'm going to add to it a check to see if there are no people in the radius, and it tells you if anyone can hear you. I have two prefs for it, one is the radius (10 - 200) and another is if local chat is on or off. I like having the radius set to 120, I was camping on my private server with Goldenboy, FireFlamer, and Rathgarf. It was fun. The local chat added a challenge and a sense of reality as if you couldn't hear someone from far away, so if you got lost, there was only hope if you signaled someone somehow, or someone found you, or you found your way back home.

Next I will work on the Whisper local chat, and then the team local chat, and then the radio chat.

Muffinmix has given me the prototype model of the Hunting Rifle! Here is an in game screen shot:

I know, it's huge and the rings are messed up. But I have one problem, what should me and Muffinmix do if the person who has the weapon on has hook hands? Discuss this.

It appears that blockland doesn't like it when I extrude only edges... That's the only place I see messed up rings. Sorry, I forgot to tell you it isn't scaled correctly. I can model, but I haven't learned much on the relation between Blockland and Blender

I scaled it up, but yeah I should've noticed the ring parts were unusual when they were permanently black in flatshaded/smoothshaded looks. As for the scaling I'll export it as a smaller version and everything will scale right automatically. Great model by the by.

The Hands vs Hooks bit is probably going to be the hardest thing in the universe to figure out but we must persevere!

It's Hooks interchangeable with hands or it's nothing. You don't see pirates running around with silly prosthetics!

I have no idea, my focus is on the gun right now, waiting for a solution to the hooks before animating anything.

Glass went to bed but I know he wanted a radio-brick modeled though. You could ask him for details tomorrow.

People are going to be downloading models for guns and animals and whatever else you make, you might as well model everything. For the people who don't want to download it off the server you can just make a client addon. You're going to have to anyway for the GUIs. Don't make any sacrafices for 10 extra seconds off download time, it's not worth it.

Same thing goes for no custom textures on the map. People are going to have to download the terrain file anyway, and that's going to take way longer then a couple of ground textures.

Whoa, we have Wedge commenting on this topic. I agree with Wedge, we shouldn't trade off loading time for the quality of the mod, I'm still the GUI guy. And anyways, once you download the entire mod off one server, you have it for the rest. Just remember guys, this isn't going to be released (we hope). I am going to start working on the chat system again once I'm done with the gun.

I have one question, I am going to start working on the Radio system, in the brick file thing, could I have the brick data show the bricks dimensions, but then put a shapefile field to make it a shape? LeggoEggo, can you make a poll that says "Should Milk and Muffinmix include hook hands in the Rifle model" and the answers are yes and no.

I figure we could do something similar to the hideNode function on the minifig, except use it on the gun as well to switch between hooks/hands. I'm not 100% certain, but I'm pretty sure "Node" in scripting translates to a Bone or a Joint (same thing) in modelling for positioning, as well as the meshes attached to it. If that's the case then in theory we should be able to hide/unhide specific parts of a weapon model via script. It should be doable.
