at the price of my sanity while trying to figure out how to do it.
lol
getting down the whole train signaling thing is tough, but can be the most useful money maker in game. even planes cant move passengers as fast as a properly functioning train line. ive seen large cities fill an airport faster then planes are allowed to land.
using 1-way looping for huge busy train lines is great, you can have 6 times the amount of trains then there are even places to pull into stations, and it don't matter. 1ways spaced out along the entire run also allow trains to follow each other and not have to wait.
there are even more ctrl+clicking signals that you guys are yet to use. where they come before and after junctions, and can not only signal a train in as usual, but can tell it what station is open, 3 signals before they reach it and could normally have seen it themselves.
there's also the use of waypoint orders on trains that no one ive seen needs yet.
* to raise ratings on a station, you have to move cargo faster, to up the transport % of that station.
you notice how every industry out there belongs to a nearby town. that town hates you for having cargo gather and sit on the station, even for a second.
i have a train or truck sitting and waiting for production at all times, so stuff barely touches the station istelf, its like dropping right into a truck.
you do this with a combination of full load options and the PERFECT amount of vehicles to get there and back in time to be the next full loader.
but you also cant have 4-5-6-7 things full loading at once, because that brings ratings down anyways. it has to be as close to perfect as you can possibly do, have them show up in about the time the last left. its guessing and test running. buying more then selling some vehicles till im please with this line and move on.
and even then i have to return to everything in game to make adjustments, the economy and production changes, upgrades to faster vehicles changes this system to.
* advantages to having the high ratings
you get more people/cargo then other players are allowed there.
things will produce a little more, and stay up rather then drop as some places industry's do and that's why they go out of business.
the town will like you more, give you more options in the towns local authority, and is more tolerant you you bombing their roads, buildings, and farms.
