those two tech mods are on the low-tech end of the tech spectrum
if you were to put them on a historical timeline, ie and flaxbeard's would be around the industrial revolution while something like ic^2 would be futuristic

What do I do with stacks of iron? I have too little to make anything good out of iron blocks, and I'm in Hardcore Mode.
I don't want any Iron Blocks because usually I just explore to find caves and ravines and I don't think I'd have any use building a base.
