Why does singleplayer have so much block lag compared to multiplayer? So far I updated java and installed optifine, but those didn't seem to work.

Have you tried using a resource pack with a lower resolution? Dokucraft is great and all, but high-res textures applied to all blocks can and will lag a pc if it isn't powerful enough.

I have never in my entire time playing minecraft seen that happen in singleplayer. that is really weird

Yes, that's the entire reason I pointed out the resource pack. If switching to vanilla textures improves his performance, than he'll need to downgrade his graphics when running the resource pack

but yeah singleplayer block lag is incredibly weird. I honestly don't know how to improve it other than putting less strain on the system.

edit:
it's pixel perfection, 16x
I goofed

it looks like your game is running slowly

i'm guessing since singleplayer is actually running a server locally, the server may also be running slowly since the processing power is split between the client and the server, and should both be experiencing issues at the same time

kind of bizarre it would be that slow to update the blocks though

make every texture but in your own style/colors and in 32x32 (basically the default res x2)
where do find the default one to work from?

Lower your graphics settings, close background apps, upgrade your toaster, use less mods. This is because the time it takes to finish the tick is longer than it should be so it's overlapping the ticks.

Probably a corrupt chunk. Try a new world or use MCEdit and delete the chunk.

Actually you know what, I think I finally figured out what the problem is, my server isnt trying to generate with any of the terrain mods im using, so when its loading new stuff, its crashing
because Ive been putting the worlds into my server instead of letting it generate them
now how do I make my server do what I need it do

scratch all of that
apparently my server, despite having mods in the mods folder, isnt using any of them

Im big idiot (?) (!)
welp, looks like things are working so far and Im just a loving idiot
I was using the wrong jar to launch my server
