The whitelist feature is broken. Sadclub joined my server I was hosting last night even though he wasn't on the whitelist.  

Or maybe it just turns off when you shut down the server, and I needed to turn it on again?

it just spawns Steves that punch you except they have to get RIGHT next to you, as if they're pigmen.
i almost got raped by them because i was completely surrounded and my sword just decided to kinda break at that moment
