You should maybe keep it private, but take requests to join by PM. If anyone has a history of griefing or generally being an starfish on another server you just deny them access.

i thought they could do it on any difficulty?

I don't think so. I go AFK at night sometimes and I've never had a zombie break down my door on easy or normal. I've also never seen a changelog that says they can.

They try but when the door is fully broken on not-hard it just goes back to being not damaged
