You can attack monsters that come to where the corners of the blocks meet from the other side

You can't change your spawn point in single player Alpha

Edit: My Lava Well is the best way to get rid of useless crap ever, stand in front of it and throw items in, and FWOOSH - it's gone!

I'd post a picture but I do not have my laptop.
Pretty much it's a tower made out of lava, decorated with stone and glass.
At its base is a pit with water that sucks in anything that falls down it.
I sacrifice wild life to the lava gods.

Onling a made a giant pit filled with lava in which we sacrificed animals and items It was cased in bedrock .
