Author Topic: Minecraft Megathread; yeah its update 1.12 big whoop what about it  (Read 6985772 times)

Couldn't someone use reeds as money, and just have the government grow them? And seize any freelance reeds?

I find the idea of having organized society and government in Minecraft absolutely ridiculous

People should build their stuff, mine their stuff, and stay out of other people's stuff

But that's just me
Same here.
It's hard to control a currency/government system. :C
Also: 110 pages until 1337. <3

K ima host, it will be a plain minecraft server, IP: 24.1.42.4

Then being an online game, the idiots in the government will start sneaking seeds and become rich, corrupt mother forgeters. We don't need money.

And if you have to, barter with others. That's exactly how I see it. I may have a house in a town on Heals, but it's not like a spend my entire time there. I mine, and stay out of others' stuff.

Currency = Bad
Bartering = Good

I just don't like the idea of losing the use of one of the materials (Especially clay for bricks) just so I can buy things off people.

Can't connect.

I haven't even started it yet.

And if you have to, barter with others.

Not even that, because then you give someone something and they don't hold up their end of the bargain

If you need something from someone, the only outcomes should be "no" or "here you go, take it"

Well on Heal's server, I know a crap load of people, so I can trust them to do that stuff. It's just boring you stay away from everyone and build a solitary home. If it's like that, there's single player.

Maybe when PvP comes out, that will change. "Gimme clay for this or I kill you and take it all"  "ahhh okay here!"

or something I don't know.

But PvP is going to change SMP a LOT.

One of the only ways currency would work well with the current things implemented into SMP is through a server mod. You'd use commands to exchange money instead of trying to have people term different physical resources as the official currency. This would let funds accumulate in a treasury every day, where admins in "government" positions can withdraw and distribute funds to players starting up shops. The the shop owners can use their funds to pay workers to collect materials for them etc. "Banks" could give out loans to players just starting out, and after they buy some tools and work for a bit, they could pay the bank back and such.

Personally I'm a fan of just swapping physical goods ("I have a lot of iron but need gold, anyone want to trade?"), but the above would be decent if you really wanted to have a currency system. It'd probably be hard to start from scratch, but all economies are unless slapped with a big starter pack of cash.
