Make a shelter before nightfall comes--

Punch a tree, get wood. Oh lord
Put the logs in your crafting screen and click to make refined wood.
Put four of these in a square in your craft screen to make crafting bench.

Make a pickaxe...
find some coal...
make some torches...

You should get the rest. Look on the wiki for crafting help
