Rookie, the only way to fix that is to delete your .minecraft folder. Happened to me. :c

I redid the biome-tones so the trees are blood-red in the nether now :D  Same with grass, but you have to hack it in.

What the forget. I just started a new save and got myself a nice cave house for my first shelter and made a mine. I found Gold and Diamond almost staright away after about 3 mins of digging, but guess what... No Iron to mine it with! Haha.
