It mines just as fast with a stone pickaxe.
IN OTHER NEWS I just killed a ghast with a steel sword easily. Too bad they only drop gunpowder, though.

I made a new world. But what I did was... I went through teh portal I made at my house, did stuff in Nether, and went back to the regular world in some odd place.

whenever i build a portal in the normal world, it takes me to my first exit portal, some underground cave in the nether

Not really, brimstone is like using a torch. It has its own light source.

brimstone is 1 block lighter than torches and is as bright as sunlight
