Not possible without having a Mob Spawner edited with a map editor to spawn Ghasts. I would know, atleast 10 portals spread out outside, not a single ghast.

Actually, Notch said that Ghasts have a small chance of spawning on earth near a portal.

MineCraft Diary: Day 1

Today I was awoken by the sounds of animals.
I was dazed, and didnt know where I was, and very confused, but I managed to build my house before too much happened.
Then at nightfall I heard these weird noises and looked out my window and saw a gigantic spider. I was so afraid I hid in a corner and to make it worse this weird thing with this weird look exploded blowing up my humble abode
And I was attacked by a skeleton and its arrows. And did I mention the zombies?
But they all burned just after dawn
Wherever the hell I am, its sure as strange as all hell
