IMO what Notch should be doing is making gravel useful.

There's an idea, gravel could be heated in a forge to make more cobblestone. You'd need twice the gravel for the cobblestone though, so 2:1. That'd give it a use and give us more useful stone.

And totally waste coal. Gravel should be placed in a 2x2 block formation, to make cemented gravel, kind of like sandstone.

I recently found out that buckets of lava can be used in place of coal in a furnace and last about 10-20x or more longer.

I went onto a server called NatureCraft and suggested that we should build a 20x20 hole. So I gathered a group of 3-4 people and we started digging. Then everyone on the server got interested and it became this huge group project. However people started screwing it up by making holes in random places. D:
