Mine near where you mined that diamond and you might just find some more, diamonds sometime aren't directly adjacent to eachother.

It was 1 or 2 blocks above bedrock near the center. I don't think there is any more.

That's why you make your pits sideways. :)

But pits that are vertical are easy to get down.

You'll have a much higher amount of resources with a horizontal mine, the long walk is worth it, and you can always minecart it up.

Also why is there a bedrock? Seems pointless. It should just be infinite.

Because if you go beneath it its the nether. If you go to the top of the nether as high as you can go you hit bedrock.

There is nothing above or below the bedrock.

The nether, not technically speaking, exists below the world.

But if you're a nerd and want to get technical, it's made as a separate world and that's why it has a loading screen when you go to it. If you go below bedrock (hax, or something) you just fall into nothingness then die.
