My laptop cannot at all.  It has no OpenGL support on its really, REALLY low-end Intel integrated chip.

I think it's because it gets over-heated, because I can play on fancy, normal distance (far distance blackscreens) with smooth shading and view bobbing, and will start to lag then run at 28 fps again, while with all of those off, even on tiny distance, happens the same. :o

Just because Minecraft has simple graphics doesn't mean it doesn't take up a lot of memory.

yeah since you're not going to need to largely harvest bones unless every mob except the skeleton is turned into a wolf
and you won't really need a stuffload of arrows either
