how many loose blocks and items can be on the ground at once? and how long do they last?

i was thinking of flooding the ground of one of my mineholes to water-rush dropped ore and junk to an end location.

just dont want the better stuff disappearing because they game requires me to grab them within 15 min.

I think around 100000 or more can be on the ground at once. However, the more there are, the more fp's the game will use to keep the game running. Items last for around 3 mins so if you die in a cave, You need to be quick or you will lose you'r stuff.

whats the point in making gathering machines and taking advantage of all the cool things water can do when you have to be there overlooking it all anyways. might as well manually pick the stuff up, its faster.

i'm giving you an alternate solution to your problem
PROBLEM: need to transport ores
your solution: water that takes things down creating lag.
my solution: minecarts with chests in them.
