1.8 won't be that great. People are just notch fanboys and get over hyped about anything in minecraft. Nothing about 1.8 is revolutionary for the game or anything. As far as I'm concerned, it is just going to make the world look a bit nicer with rivers and ravines.

I think Strongholds shouldn't be limited by a preset number, rather a percent chance of generation. :/

Quick question, does Hamachi conflict with your server if it is non-hamachi? My server hasn't been working ever since I used hamachi to play at my dad's house. His router is fairly hard to port forward on. Any ides of how to fix this?

There are actually quite a few new game changing updates. Hunger, XP, critical hits, sprinting. And that's just naming a few.

until XP has a use it won't change anything
as far as critical hits, hunger and sprinting go I won't really be affected. I tend to eat regularly anyway and my combat choice is back against a wall and click rapidly until everything dies, it is quite effective and doesn't need changing. But that just pertains to me I guess.
