last night I realized that people probably liked the show so much because of the characters, they have interesting personalities that are in some cases highly relatable, and in most others entertaining to watch.

and then you have all these background characters which are pretty much given no personality or purpose, and this opens a large gate for a huge following to come in and fill the shells with life.
