As Jeb stated, this means YYwWWx.

YY = The current year.
w = Week.
WW = Week number.
x = a, b, c... (In case there is more than one in the week).

It's a snapshot of the game done every week or less. This allows them to test our features with the larger community to assure full releases are as bug free as possible, since they seem to feel obligated to a cleaner running game since full release.

Notch is busy gaming and stuff, but he should still be around to help with code and apply things. He probably still has the liberty to apply what he wants to it, as long as Jeb agrees. And he should, since it was originally Notch's work.
