Is 1.1 worth updating?  It's got beaches, yeah and all that other balancing... but some of the posts here are just slightly concerning.  Not much, though.

Only on Superflat World type. Otherwise, no.

Beaches are extremely minor to the update, like if it had an updated logo had a few extra yellow pixels on it. The only real problems people are having is the usual "Mods won't work now."

I have a nice seed (IMO). It puts you on a grassland which is very close to an area where a grassland, taiga, mountain range and swamp meet.

Or you could find a cluster of Gold Ore, break it down into a ton of Gold Nuggets, and have a bunch of Golden Apples.

Trying to survive on Superflat is pretty tricky. It's completely possible but it would be boring, especially at night.
If you find a village you're set.

No, that's why it's so tricky. No light at night, no wood for beds, and you have to build everything out of dirt.
That's why you need to find a village. They have wood houses that you can take the tree wood off and replace with regular wood for a profit of 3 wood. There's also plenty of cobble and wheat. Slimes are dangerous so you want to barricade the village or stay in houses.

i made a superflat survival world, and spawned 10 blocks from a village :)

also my fps has gone down a lot from 1.0 to 1.1
