Ugh, there have been many release dates for the API in the past. Oh well, at least they're still working on it. I think it will actually be released this time around, too.

There really is no reason to not have smoothstone stairs.

yes but if you have a road made of smooth slabs you're going to have to use slabs for inclines, and that doesn't work as well when you need the road to be steep.
