Actually I just got to the part of the changelog that says Axes can disable shields, so I guess it really is a primarily PVP weapon

I'm kind of upset to find that axes are just plain worse than swords despite being considered somewhat of an official "weapon" in 1.9

I was expecting them to be on a similar level but considering they have lower DPS, don't favor weapon-based enchantments, and still take double durability when used to attack, there doesn't seem like any reason to use them unless you just don't have a sword

Maybe for PVP if you want to make sure each separate hit does the most damage possible you could use one then, but otherwise I can't see the point

Axes can disable shields, so they're really only worth using as a weapon in pvp or if your sword breaks in a pinch.

beta 1.7.1 is the definitive version of Minecraft and nothing anybody can say will sway me from this argument.
After the "adventure update" Minecraft just became too complex for its own good. The game wasn't focused on PVP as much as 1.8 made it, and now literally every server on the front page on PMC is a factions, pvp or arena server.

I love the technic pack where you start in space (I forget the name for it rip), but after a while it starts to feel more like traditional vanilla, get ore, upgrade, get next ore, upgrade, etc.
