It's G-Man is an starfish took you some 20 years into the future.
The entire point of that was to eliminate continuity, resulting in a fresh plotline with some minor throwbacks to Black Mesa in HL1.

I did a survey of this on an old game's forum, with a poll. I think about 33% of members with "spartan" in their name were referencing the warriors, 58% were referencing Halo, and 9% had other influences.
Of course, this was in the early days of Halo 2, so the numbers are no doubt very different now.

HL2's multiplayer is horrible, the doom series is pretty much dead, and the newest Quake games suck.

HL2DM is the only official HL2 Multiplayer. Mods don't count.

Doom 3 was stuffty and, there hasn't been a new Doom game in a while, Quake Wars and Qauke 4 were bad.

Wars was entertaing at first but, got old quick, it was just BF with different models.
