The forget?
If you're(yes, you are) dwarves stay underground for too long, they lose their ability to handle sunlight. When re-exposed to it, they start vomiting and etc. Buildings used to break them of that habit are often full of vomit, hence "vomitorium".

Dissecting humor is like dissecting a frog; it's lost in the process.

WHAT THE forget THERES A GOBLIN loving AMBUSH SO THEY ALL forget AROUND I TELL THEM TO STAY INSIDE SO THEY ALL BECOME IDLERS AND RUN AROUND THE GOBLINS GETTING KILLED EVEN WITH THE DWARVES STAY INSIDE ORDERS THEY GO AND GET THEMSELVES KILLED

Put them all inside and lock the front door while the military smashes the goblins' faces. Also Designate everything outside as Forbidden so the forgeters won't have anything to go retrieve from outside or to whine about.

And most importantly, turn off all warning messages before you lock the door, since some dwarves will really really want to go outside to pick stuff up during goblin attacks and your message box will be flooded with about a million Dwarf Cancels whatever messages.

What i do is a Ballista hall.

What i do is a Ballista hall.

Good ballista operators/engines take too long to train up/build. You can get a capable military trained up as soon as the first immigrant wave hits, and it won't require you to deforest the area to train the Engineer to make better siege engine parts  :cookieMonster:

Unless you have the best operators and the best parts, siege engines will be excruciatingly slow and inaccurate, so much so that you'll have a hard time when sieges start, even with a narrow hall with a ballista facing down through it.

As soon as the first wave comes I turn the peasants and other jobs i don't need into soldiers.

Still looking for glowing chamber.

*Spoilers!!*

Search under mountain spots, usually the chambers are 3-12 z levels above the lowest z level. There are plenty of trace veins spanning the z levels above the chambers, these are small veins and they're pretty safe game. If you hit thicker veins you'll know the chambers aren't too far off. Try mining upwards once you find anything at all and start excavating from the top.

The best way to find the stuff is to make large square mining designations. Hold shift, drag across an area, repeat horizontally and vertically a few times until you have a nice area of square lines designated.

Once you find some you "rake" the area, basically strike lines horizontally or vertically, each separated by 2 squares so you end up revealing everything. As precaution, you would want to avoid joining these tunnel lines except atleast at one of their ends to let you miners actually get to them. You should make sure there will be only 1 thin entryway to the site since you'll have to scramble to block off all exits if you unearth something by accident. You CAN'T build walls in the chambers or close to them, but you can still build walls a ways away. It is entirely possible to have a miner switch to mason (while removing all other masons via their labors) and having that miner build a wall before the chamber things even notice.
