Yes exactly, only, he wouldn't be gone forever. In the sequel you'd play as another different robot who has to find both Quote and the other robot, temporary name Asterisk which could involve a mission on the mainland to find Quote. :D

For the prequel I wasn't thinking much about Quote and Curly. Sequel I was thinking that they are now living together in the real world posing as humans or something.

Well, I don't think if we made a sequel, we'd want a large portion of the game on Earth, being...well...boring.
Perhaps they are forced to return to the island after?

I say, if possible, make their be an entire team in the sequel. Maybe multiplayer, maybe a flashback like thing from ODST.

Eh, that'd require scripting and such beyond Cave Story's capabilities, or more or less, ours, unless we have an adult or something on our modification group.
Pixel doesn't mind mods, but not flat-out changes like that.
