False information. If we went to Pandora right now, it would make sense, because of the huge economy crash. They went to Pandora to get the shiny rocks. To do so,  they had to kill the Na'vi. That would make the whole plot. They went there for the money. How greedy of us :U

A bad economy doesn't mean the planet is dying, it means there is a bad economy. If you think about it, it would make sense that earth is "dying" so to speak, since the movie obviously takes place far into the future and earth is probably overpopulated.

EDIT: Also,

Supply and demand. Assuming there was still a demand, the price would not drop.
