And therefore retreat. Planes are cowards.

It doesn't make a difference if it works, though.

Dragon can just use the mountains as a shield. till the guy come down, or loses ammo.

Planes turning at high speeds. It is an effective retreat. Dragon wins.
You can't really hide behind a mountain if there is something directly over head, also turning around for another attack run is not retreating.

Ok, then I'm going to make up a plane. It can hover, carries 200 radar guided all-aspect missiles, has special fireproofing, and can fly at speeds up to mach 8.

This topic really bothers you, doesn't it?

The plane comes back with friends after a retreat.

Also according to myth, dragons can get rare, really rare.

So how many friends does dragon have?

And therefore retreat. Planes are cowards.
It's not the plane's fault dragons can't fly at supersonic speeds.

It bothers me too :C

What if there were multiple dragons and multiple planes? Would the planes gather up and take out one dragon at a time?

This is not the case.

Or, well, it hasn't been until someone needs it

Are you referring to a fighter jet with an idiot inside? Or were you actually talking about a fighter jet with an actual pilot inside?

You can't count those, and Carpet Bombs were meant to decimate cities and battlefields and demoralize the population and opposing army, not demolish an entire enemy army.

Most of those pilots flew BF-109s.

He said a fighter jet

An F-35 Lightning 2 equiped with radar/passive IR guided missiles fitted with shaped charges would splatter a dragons guts all over any mountain.

If a shaped charge can cut through multiple inches of solid steel and keep going, I'm sure it would have no trouble with a dragons scales. Even if the dragon had some magic heat resistance, the explosion combined with the stream of molten copper would have no trouble ripping up a dragon.

Dragon loses.

Which shows how good they were, now imagine giving them modern fighter tech.
