Did we ever have proper plasma cannons and stuff you would usually find on a spaceship? I don't think so.

Presenting you, the plasma cannon (Left), the plasma repeater (Middle) and the flak.
The plasma cannon fires simple high-energy plasma and is very accurate. The plasma repeater is pretty much an enhanced version of the plasma cannon with a better cooling and recoil system that allows a higher rate of fire but isn't as accurate as the plasma cannon. The flak is a short-range point-defense system. Not very accurate and limited range, but very effective against incoming fighters/missiles/etc.

Next on my list: Railgun or some other kind of big long-range laser... thing. Whatever.

Because big-ass space cannons with lasers and plasma balls flying everywhere and vaporizing everything are much cooler than small pieces of plastic and metal that shoot tiny balls of lead.
