Sympathy.
As messed up as it may sound, I hope something close to you is lost forever. Your stupid, arrogant view of death will change in an instant after going through an experience like that.
I've lost a grandfather, and a step-grandmother. Soon to be some more grandparents. I am quite familiar with death, and I still maintain these views, because they are the most logical/rational ideas I could come up with.
Sympathy is only felt by a select few species, us being one of them, the question is why?
