do you mean magnetite instead of magnesium?

also, give more dwarves all the stonecrafting labors by pressing v going to the dwarf and pressingp then l then enabling all stonecrafting stuff

stone engraving is irrelevant
you need masonry

Only if I qualify. I can tell you that I don't leave a mess everywhere. Maybe near the work shops, where I have all them supply stockpiles but that's it.

EDIT: Will a floor grate keep fire imps out of your forges?
