Author Topic: Rift Beta!!!!  (Read 7095 times)

i applied even though i've never subscribed to any mmo in my life :D

Rift is in beta now, it is a new MMO with a huge budget coming out that has dynamic questing, where if you don't do quests instead of them just dying out or resetting, the quest monsters will slowly start taking over the world.

Beta keys from Curse.com get them fast: http://www.curse.com/keys/rift/default.aspx

quitting WoW for this if it is half decent, Last I heard it was still early in Alpha, that was like a year ago?

Should be out next year!

Alright, so most games now cost 60-70 dollars when they are brand new. The average playtime you get out of most of these games is 10 hours. So you spend 60-70 dollars for 10 hours of game play.
That is stupid, every game that I have bought I have played for more than a day and some more than 50 hours. I have played Oblivion for more than 4 days on one save. I have 300+ hours on Garry's mod and 200 hours on TF2 and still play them. And even if you don't play a game you get to keep that game forever but you still have to pay monthly for WoW and other MMOs.

Got in already!!!
WOAH WOAH WOAH, WHAT? Livestream please :c

EDIT: inb4yuki

I'm not going to get it just because it looks like a MMO Oblivion. I really don't like games with textures and dynamic lightning that should make game look realistic.

Even though it actually looks like a MMO Fable.

Bah

Yeah, but not every game has multi-player and the ones that do don't last forever. I'm not saying all games are like this, just a lot of them now. I'm just showing that WoW, and other MMO's, aren't necessarily expensive when you look at how many hours you get in a month for just 15 dollars.
I also never said in my post that all games were like this, just a lot of them now. Companies like Valve, Blizzard, etc are usually the ones making the good long lasting games, but then you have games like (although good) Assassins Creed, Fable, God of War, etc, that you beat once and don't really feel the need to beat again. You don't get your moneys worth, in time, out of them.

I usually get much more time out of my games, TF2 for example, I have played that for 100+ hours and still enjoy.  Not only that but I got it in the orange box so instead of being 20 dollars for that one game it was 30 for 3 games, 10 dollars for 100+ hours of game fun.  AND it is being constantly updated.  Not trying cramp your style ;P but just saying some retail games like TF2 can have tons of game time, replay value, and cost effectiveness.

EDIT:
Oh yeah, hope this game goes good, I'm not even going to try and get a beta key seeing as right now I'm limited to my school MAC, school part's not bad, MAC part is :(
Yeah again, I never said all games.

Obviously a multi-player game will have a lot of replay value, but that's because they were designed to center around multi-player. Games that don't center around multi-player, but incorporate it, generally have a shorter multi-player experience.

EDIT: Anyways, there's no point in arguing this. It generally boils down to "my parents won't pay for the game so I can't play it".

I got my key and registered it. but i cant find where to download.

You're suppose to wait to be selected to be in the beta weekend. (?)

Same :\

I get what you mean, but I only buy games like CoD, Halo, Assassin's Creed, GTA, L4D

Mainly games that never "end".

It's kind of like WoW but a lot better in some ways, the rifts are similar to public quests in Warhammer Online where it's like a mini story and anyone can join in for the rewards and what-not. You eventually have 3 jobs, like I started out as a shaman, then I got justicar, and later I am going to get druid, so I will basically be 3 classes in one, then there is giant talent trees for each job and you can spend as many as you want in each tree. Again it is similar to WoW basically having 3 trees to spend points into, but this game encourages you to spend points in all 3 trees and also to build multiple jobs, so like there is 3 trees in WoW but you have to go full enhancement to be any decent, Rift encourages things like being half restoration and half enhancement. Also you can have 3 different setups, like dual spec but 3x, So I can be full shaman, full druid, and full justicar, or I can be 1/3rd of each, then the other spec half and half, and the other spec another half and half combo. So I can go anywhere from a hardcore group healer, to a full on melee self-healing machine, to a decent healer that also holds his own.

You have a point ;)

The rifts are pretty sweet, basically they pop out of nowhere and the sky opens up and tentacles start flying down, then they grab this tiny anime chick and rip off her clothes then tentacles pop up out of the floor and the floor turns like the creep stuff from zergs in starcraft, then monsters start popping out of nowhere and you just kill everything that spawns until a boss spawns you kill that, then you get random loot and XP. I tried to take an SS but if you copy and paste it it is just a black square.

Found a pic on the website:

It just spawns out of nowhere.
