Author Topic: AWVR 777 from "Unstoppable" - Update 3/30 - Complete!  (Read 76460 times)

The 3 hoppers you have in question are not covered, they are open hoppers. (unless you can find a clip of them showing otherwise)
One overhead shot in the movie confirms what you say: those three cars are, in fact, open hoppers carrying what I would suspect to be coal.

Also, I can close the case with regard to consist length: the film's commentary reports that 25 freight cars were used in the consist, and (rare) shots of the entire consist during the movie show that the makeup of the entire train is precisely as it is shown in the now updated second post. (I have inadvertently memorized the types of cars in the train, in order, over the course of this project....)

Can I Ask What are the Events For the Emergency brakes valve? I'm doing the Atomic Train Consist and i want it so when you press that Cylinder thing,it activates the brakes, but burns out seconds later. Ill give you COOKEZ  :cookie: :cookie: :cookie: :cookie: :cookie: :cookie:

The locomotives got a nose job!

I made the logo taller, thickened the stripes, elongated the stripes, and finally added those vents on either side of the cab!

Here's the front and left sides of AWVR 777, showing off the new look:

Here's the front and right sides of 767, showing off another angle of the improved front:

Finally, for those of you who are interested, here's a 4-scale Megashot of a head-on view of the train:

Wow, that engine looks fantastic with its lights on. It's too bad most hood units have ugly hoods going across their entire front rather than having a shorter one for both front and rear entrances. Still, your engines are pretty cool. What model of locomotive are they, exactly?

Rating: 9.5/10

AWVR 777 and 767 are GE AC4400CWs. They do actually have front and rear entrances: the front entrance is a door built into the cab.

More progress for all of you!

A minor update is yet another improvement of the stripes on the front of the locomotives:

But by far my greatest achievement today is that I, within a matter of hours, went from basic frame to complete covered hopper! Here's Army Unit, who dropped by my server twice, standing next to it, for perspective:

It's even complete with some details underneath:

Whoa, nice hopper. But wouldn't it have been more efficient to make most of the bottom a plate, and then making the hopper's grain release doors on that?

Faster? Certainly. More accurate? Certainly not.

And if anyone is wondering what it says on the side, it reads, "Trans Grain." The "N" is by far the lest legible letter, but I believe that that is the closest I can get to an "N" on a two dimensional, vertical surface.

I noticed upon reexamining some reference images that I was missing a beam that traverses the underside of the car. (My guess is that this might carry the workings of the brakes.) I noticed when watching the IMDB clip that is linked in the second post of this thread, though, that it is not visible when looking from the side. This lead me to believe that the beam is, as I saw it on one model, higher than the outer walls of the car. Here is the updated underside of the covered hopper:

My apologies for the small scale of the update: I had little spare time this evening, but at least it's something.

Ohai it has my numbers. :3

Just saw unstoppable. Now I am evin more astonashed by the level of detail.

It's nice to see you actually did work on it, instead of pulling a Night Fox and procrastinating indefinitely.
Good job RMS.

I appreciate all of your feedback! I lengthened the flatcars, and, subsequently, their pipes. The cars are now 54 studs long, which is 50 studs between bulkheads:

The server is currently up, and I am currently working further on the train, if anyone wants to come visit. I actually have enough train now where I can link cars together to briefly show how they'll look, for those who want to get an idea for the size of this build!

I was able to finish the Murrigan closed hopper:

And with that, I have all of the cars I need to couple the first six units of the runaway:

And for fans of DOF, here's a megashot of the consist so far:
