It has a lot more in common with an msi file, and no, you should be able to do it all through a gui. If you're downloading debian packages off the internet just double click on them, if you're downloading software through the software center or packages through synaptic it should just work. I'm pretty sure I always installed java through the software center.

If you want a fancy easy to use web interface, there's always http://www.getdeb.net/welcome/

I don't have ubuntu installed anywhere right now so I can't really answer any questions, although I'll probably set up a vm tomorrow, as well as explain how to set up ubuntu in virtual box so anybody can play around with it without having to install it (or any other os you might want to try out).

Dis here man

is awesome

Thank you, people are definitely going to want to watch that.

Well, could anyone explain why java isn't working for minecraft, but works for the java's website's java tester?
I cleared my cache, and I can run the .exe minecraft with wine, albiet VERY slowly in compairison to my old set up.
That and I can't seem to find development libaries files for SDL, much less link them with the new linux version of codeblocks, but I doubt anyone can help me with that.

You should be able to download the .jar file from the Minecraft website for Linux. I'm just not sure how you would run it.

No stuff.
I can download anything I want, even files for mac, but running them is the problem.

I loved Ubuntu <3 Was able to get most everything to run on it somehow

However when I installed Windows 7 it stopped booting to that screen to select your OS (Yes I made sure during installation to NOT install it over the Ubuntu partition) and now I cant select Ubuntu to boot into ;(

I made my decision to try out Ubuntu when I saw you using that cube desktop thing and running a server with WINE.

So yeah it turns out I have 4.7GB CD+R disks.  :cookieMonster:

It doesn't post to the master server, and it can't authenticate either.
I know, I've been there about a month ago when I was experimenting with the hosting service.

I am able to get blockland running with wine, but it says it can not write to the cache...can someone help me :c?

Don't try using 10.10 right now, it's still really buggy. Get 10.04 LTS
