Bed is used not only as decoration, but if the room you have it in has nice space bounders, I think around 12 width blocks free and I forgot how many height blocks free...- You can set your spawnpoint to it.

Also hosting in Terraria sucks. It's not that you can't host. It's the fact that you need to have 2 instances of Terraria open to play on your server, which lags you and all of your clients. Not to mention the stupid chat lag.
