i think the dirt was just made to curve slightly on really steep slopes.

inside the tree trunk you can see what appears to be diagonal wood blocks, but i think it just does it automatically.

Same case for me. I've always been so close then something comes up / the world gets "mysteriously" deleted (My brother deleted it to make room for his)

That sucks. For me its the fact that my friend that hosts for me can host everything but Terraria. I don't enjoy playing alone either. I would host myself but I have a bandwidth cap as well
